The 16 Days activities were conducted at the Jeepyah Education Centre by the Jeepyah Civil Society Development Organization (JCSDO) on 2nd December 2022 from 9:00 am in the morning to 1:00 pm in the afternoon.
The activity aimed to raise awareness about gender-based violence and the history of the 16 Days Activity so that participants involve in solving gender-based violence in their community.
There were 54 (47 female, and 7 male) from 21 villages, from 9 townships such as Ye, Thanphyuzayut, Mudon, Kyaikmayaw, Mawlamyine, Chaungzone, Paung, Thahton, Kawkarate, and Kyarinnsikekyi had participated at the event.
The ceremony was held with 7 interesting agendas and it was not only presenting the history of the 16 Days activity presented, but also Quiz, Role-play, entertainment, and feed lunch to the participants. The hall was beautifully decorated with the Slogan of the 16 Days activity in Burmese, Mon, and English languages. The JCSDO team also created a nice sensory by decorating the backdrop event decoration with the Slogan, and distributed T-shirts with Slogan, IEC materials, stickers, white ribbons, and create a beautiful backdrop to take photos.
JCSDO invited a guest speaker to present about gender-based violence (GBV) and due to the effective presentation, the participants were deeply interested in the history of the 16-day activity and GBV. To be able to leave a message to participants, the team did the role-play regarding gender-based violence.
As a result of this activity, not only were attendees aware and knew about the 16 Days activity, gender-based violence but also the community of the attendees was aware of this from them. They got a message to involve ending the violence as one of their responsibilities. Thus, the JCSDO believes that this activity is essential to be done continuously to raise awareness of the community, especially the youth to be able to end up gender-based violence.
